The Vaudeville Theatre opened in 1870, originally staging vaudeville shows and musical revues.

Designed by renowned architect C. J. Phipps in a Romanesque style, the theatre has been rebuilt twice, with each new structure preserving elements of the previous design. The current building dates back to 1926 and still houses early stage mechanisms, including rare thunder drums and lightning sheets.

Notable productions include Stomp! The LadykillersThe Duck HouseThe Importance of Being EarnestEmilia, and Magic Goes Wrong. The theatre is currently home to the homegrown smash-hit musical SIX.

Since 2003, the Vaudeville Theatre has been owned by Max Weitzenhoffer and, in 2005 became part of Nimax Theatres.
